RYSE Dollars and Sense Program

Organization: The RYSE Center

A safe and welcoming center for diverse West Contra Costa youth (ages 14 – 21), the mission of RYSE, a youth-led and driven center, is to build youth power and leadership to achieve both personal and community health and transformation. Grounded in social justice, RYSE provides comprehensive and holistic programming and multi-racial, cross-cultural relationships. The broader outcomes and impact goals of the organization are to ensure: (1) a sense of community and collectivity by and between youth from West Contra Costa County; (2) youth and young adults in West Contra Costa County experience optimal social, physical, and emotional health and well-being; and (3) a presence of multi-racial youth leadership, advocacy and civic and community engagement across West Contra Costa County.

Description

The RYSE Dollars and Sense program (DSP) aims to provide culturally relevant programming to increase young people’s access to and preparation for meaningful educational opportunities that ensure success and sustainable employment and career opportunities. To do this, the DSP offers programs, activities and services that help RYSE members: (1) successfully graduate from high school, (2) set and meet career and academic goals (3) increase their basic reading, writing and math skills; (3) obtain information and gain access to college and career opportunities, and (4) obtain employment.

 

The following programs/services offered are both structured and drop-in:

  • Peer tutoring/home work support
  • Study Hall
  • Online access for all career, college and academic use
  • College application assistance/advisement and education around options, and requirements to apply
  • Financial Aid application assistance
  • High School 101
  • Job search, resume/cover letter writing,  and interviewing assistance
  • Career Speaker Series
  • Access to peer support/mentoring
  • Increase literacy skills/math skills
  • Education and career planning/goal setting and assistance
  • Intensive education/career case management support services
  • Education related workshops/trainings
  • Community support and mentoring
  • Other social, emotional and artistic support services offered and connected to the RYSE Center

 

In addition to the Dollars and Sense program, RYSE provides other services that support the overall health and wellness of young people. Some of the other programming also offered to RYSE members are: counseling, case management, anger management, LGBTQ Club, leadership and advocacy, health and wellness education, and art, dance, music studio, and video production.
